Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that Dr. Ramona uses for her patients skin concerns. It involves the use of very small needles that perforate the outer layers of the skin, causing micro trauma and minor inflammation. This causes the body to respond by producing more collagen and elastin in an attempt to heal the skin, thus causing the skin to thicken. This improves one’s complexion. It causes minimal discomfort. A numbing agent is used on the skin, so most patients would report the pain at a 1 or 2 out of 10. Bio-active agents can be applied to the skin, and the microneedles help with the absorption of these agents under the skin’s outer layers, thus helping with anti-aging benefits of the treatments.
Benefits of Microneedling include decreased scar tissue and pigmentation, decreased sagging, brighter complexion, more even skin tone and texture, reduced acne scars and sunspots, reduced wrinkles and pores, and reduced cellulite. Skin is tighter with elasticity restored so a more youthful appearance is achieved.
Downtime is minimal after this procedure. The patient may notice slight redness that will last up to 1 to 2 days. Dry skin can last from 2 to 7 days after a treatment and it is recommended that the patient avoid direct sun and heat during that time.
Treatments are 1 hour long and are usually performed once a month for 4 to 6 sessions, depending on each patient’s progress.
